Clinical Psychologist 

Degrees In PsychologyThe clinical psychologist’s primary objective is to correctly diagnose a patient’s behavioral or emotional disorder and use that diagnosis to create a treatment plan to alleviate the patient of the problem. They use a variety of methods to diagnose and treat disorders to include psychotherapy sessions at the group/family/individual level, diagnostic tests, and patient interviews. According to the BLS, a clinical psychologist can realize a median salary of $72,220 with high employment opportunities in California, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Illinois.[2] 

Industrial-Organizational Psychologist 

Optimum employee productivity has a lot to do with psychology. Happy workers who believe that they are important to an organization are typically the most productive. The industrial-organizational psychologist uses psychology to facilitate many facets of an organization to include management, sales, and employee productivity. They may be actively involved in the psychological aspects of reorganization of a company in order to improve productivity. For instance, those in this field might conduct management training so that those in leadership positions can better understand their employees’ needs. Industrial-organizational psychologists command a median salary of $98,800 and can find the best opportunities in Massachusetts, California, Minnesota, New York, and Pennsylvania.[3]

School /Career Counseling

Those with psychology degrees are qualified to be counselors in practically any area to include schools and career centers where they help others make the right choice for their future occupations. In schools up to the high school level, they not only help young people make career decisions prior to graduation but also help them with any personal conflicts or behavioral shortcomings. School and career counselors can expect to make a median salary of $53,380 per year along with a 19% job growth through 2020 (as fast as average).[4] 

Mental Health / Marriage and Family Counseling 

Just as organizational, personal, and school counselors help people with their mental and emotional health in those settings, mental health, marriage, and family counselors help in settings involving relationships. Personal relationships such as these are very complex and can hit some rough terrain at times. Those in this field know how to help the person with strategies for overcoming emotional or mental difficulties in these relationships. These counselors make a median salary of $39,710 per year and it is expected that the field will grow by 37% (faster than average).[5]
